Klein Schönbrunn im Wienerwald!
Description
Anyone moving here probably isn’t planning to jump into the hustle and bustle every evening – and they don’t have to.
Because Scheiblingstein is one of those places where even the drive home already starts to slow you down. The roads become quieter, the trees more plentiful, and before long you find yourself right in the middle of the Vienna Woods. The air smells of the forest, summers are pleasantly mild up here, and when you step out of the car, you quickly understand why people want to live exactly here.
Because it is wonderfully peaceful.
And right in the middle of it all stands this yellow house. It has been here for quite some time – 66 years, to be precise.
And as the saying goes: At 66, life begins. Well then – what better time for a new chapter?
And before anyone hears “66 years” and thinks “past its prime”: far from it. This house has aged exceptionally well. So well, in fact, that quite a few younger properties could take a page from its book. Well maintained, neat and clearly cared for by loving hands over many decades.
And then there is its appearance. The warm yellow façade, the dark wooden elements and, on the garden side, the charming wrought-iron balcony railing – honestly, if this house were standing somewhere in the extensive grounds of Schönbrunn Palace, surrounded by all that greenery, you probably wouldn’t find it particularly surprising.
But now, let’s step inside.
From the entrance hall, you walk straight into the large living and dining area – and it really is spacious. Parquet flooring, plenty of room and an open fireplace that, come winter, probably won’t need much persuasion before everyone gathers around it.
On one side, there is space for dining; on the other, for relaxing, reading, watching television or simply lounging around in front of the fire. The children can play on the floor while, through the large glass doors, you look out onto the south-facing terrace and the greenery beyond.
And speaking of the terrace: this is not one of those narrow little spaces where the table and chairs have to play Tetris. There is plenty of room here. A large awning provides shade, a seating area fits comfortably, and the view stretches out into the garden.
A few steps lead down.
And this is where it gets really beautiful.
The garden measures around 621 m² and feels even larger. It slopes gently, is beautifully maintained and has clearly been tended and cared for over many years. Large lawns, flowers, shrubs and mature trees.
From the upper balcony, you really appreciate how beautifully the property is nestled into its surroundings. Across the gardens, the view stretches towards the wooded hills of the Vienna Woods, with the scenery changing beautifully throughout the seasons. It is the kind of view that makes you stop for a little longer and simply take it all in.
And if you are now looking at that lawn and thinking that a garden this size must be very thirsty during a hot summer with temperatures approaching 40°C: no need to worry. The property has its own well and domestic water system. So the garden gets all the water it needs without the water bill rising every time the sprinkler comes on.
Back inside.
The kitchen is located on the street side, and one thing is immediately apparent here as well: everything is exceptionally well maintained. Clean, tidy, warm colours, a central kitchen island and a small pantry right next to it. There is also a separate WC accessible from the entrance hall.
And then we head upstairs.
The staircase is one of those details where you might briefly wonder: modernise it or leave it exactly as it is? I would say: definitely leave it. A large glass-block feature floods the stairwell with light, with individual coloured blocks in red, blue, yellow and green scattered throughout. Combined with the black railing, it is wonderfully retro – and somehow very cool again today.
Upstairs, there are three rooms.
Two of them face the garden and both have access to the shared balcony. And this is where our little Schönbrunn moment makes another appearance: the yellow façade, the playful wrought-iron railing and, beyond it, green, green and more green.
The third room faces the front of the house. Here too, everything is bright, welcoming and, above all, in a condition that makes it clear this house has spent its life in good hands. The bathroom with shower is also located on this floor.
And because a house with a garden inevitably seems to attract things – gardening equipment, tools, supplies and all those items you eventually no longer remember why you own in the first place – there is naturally also a basement with several rooms.
A garage is included as well, while there is also plenty of additional parking space in front of the house.
But what you really get here is something that no floor plan or calculation of living space can capture: peace and quiet. And quite a lot of it.
Open the windows in the morning and let the scent of the forest drift inside. Sit on the terrace in the evening while the city is still sweltering, and simply enjoy life up here.
A place that feels almost a little like paradise if you enjoy being close to nature.
Because sometimes, it really doesn’t take much to feel at home. A little forest, fresh air, a garden right outside the door and a place where the world isn’t constantly asking something of you.
Perhaps that is what peace really is in the end: not the absence of something, but the feeling that nothing is missing.
